KXIP has involved in many spectacular games so far in the tournament but results aren’t reflecting the efforts they have put on the field. They have controlled many games but left out at the crucial juncture which costs them badly. But the last two games they have played the cricket which they should have displayed in the earlier stages of the game. But it’s never late and today they are up against table-toppers Delhi capitals at Dubai. Inclusion gayle has provided much-needed balance to their batting order and it has also allowed Rahul to play in own game with a free state of mind. Mayank Agarwal and Captain KL Rahul in red hot form followed by the West Indian duo of Chris Gayle and Nicolas Pooran both have contributed heavily with the limited opportunities they have got so far. Chris Jordan is back in the team but we are yet to witness his prime best. The pitches are slowing down and started offering lots of resistance to slow bowlers so it’s understandable that cricket pundits expect Jordan to be at his peak with the conditions favouring him. Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami have bowled well so far in the tournament and Shami, in particular, has troubled the batsmen with his pace and accuracy. He has defended 5 runs in the super over against Mumbai Indians. Maxwell’s form is a bit worrying but considering his ability he will get yet another opportunity to showcase his mantle.
DC on another hand suffered a minor setback in their batting order with Rishabh pant suffering from the injury. He has resumed training and his return to the side can be expected in coming matches. Due to the absence of Rishabh pant and Prithvi shaw’s inconsistency Dhawan has to change in role to anchor to the aggressor and he has done the role very well. He is in fine form and is fresh from his maiden ton last game. Captain Shreyas Iyer is at his best but he is throwing wickets at the crucial juncture of the game with his worrying. With wickets tumbling he has been involved in few 50+ stands with Dhawan that has helped his team to put up a competitive total on board. Marcus Stonis is doing his job as a floater and finisher. The best part of Delhi capitals is that their pace bowlers are doing a decent job with the ball as Nortje and Rabada is troubling the batsmen with metal pace and Tushar Deshpande is picking wickets for his team. They have found the balance in their bowling attack with Ashwin and Axar Patel complimenting each other and delivering wonders for his team. Overall Delhi Capitals are the well-balanced team with the right mix of youth and experience. It’s time for Ajinkya Rahane to find some form though he will warm bench after Rishabh pant is fit but his lack of form puts lots of pressure on captain Shreyas Iyer. KXIP has got a bowling unit that can trouble any batsmen so it’s time for Rahane to start contributing for teams cause.
Expected Playing XI:
1 Prithvi Shaw, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Ajinkya Rahane, 4 Shreyas Iyer (capt), 5 Marcus Stoinis, 6 Alex Carey (wk), 7 Axar Patel, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Tushar Deshpande, 10 Kagiso Rabada 11 Anrich Nortje
1 KL Rahul (capt, wk), 2 Mayank Agarwal, 3 Chris Gayle, 4 Nicholas Pooran, 5 Glenn Maxwell, 6 Deepak Hooda, 7 Chris Jordan, 8 M Ashwin, 9 Ravi Bishnoi, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Arshdeep Singh
What to expect:
Delhi capitals will look to operate Axar Patel during powerplays which considering Mayank’s troubles against leg-spin but as of now Tushar Deshpande is doing a fabulous job but operating Tushar at one end and Axar at another end is also a viable option for them.
Capitals might opt for Rahane to open the Innings instead of shaw which will allow Shreyas Iyer to bat at his favoured No.3 position.
KXIP might opt for James Neesham instead of Maxwell considering the depth in Delhi capitals batting line-up.
KXIP is supercharged with two back to back victories so they will look to daunt DC’s dream run in the tournament. So it is going to be the match between KXIP bowlers vs DC’s batsmen.
