A disappointing show against KXIP where they failed to chase down 127 has made SRH defeat top three teams to cut into playoffs. They have successfully overcome DC and RCB and today they are up against Mumbai Indians who are at the top of the table with 9 wins. If they beat MI, SRH will qualify for playoffs considering the net run rate otherwise they have to go home. SRH’s campaign has been derailed with the injuries of their leading fast bowler Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and allrounder Mitchell marsh. But marsh’s replacement Jason Holder is doing a fabulous job with bat and ball. He immediately made an impact with ball in the first two games and in the last game his 10-ball 21 has ensured that they didn’t slip in the run chase like they have done against KXIP. Dropping Johny Bairstow in the expense of Wridhiman Saha is paying dividends and Indian test wicketkeeper has immediately made an impact with 45- ball 82. Bairstow couldn’t get going in UAE this year and his consistent failures have put too much pressure on Captain David warner. Rashid khan is as usual at this best with ball and Nadeem is ably supporting him. Inclusion of Jason Holder has allowed warner to use Sandeep Sharma mostly in powerplays in which the bowler has responded with early breakthroughs. Natarajan is nailing at the death with his Yorkers and it is not known whether Vijay Shankar will be playing today or not. The batting all-rounder has suffered hamstring niggle against DC and was out for last game against RCB. It seems they have finally settled down with the ideal playing XI.
Mumbai Indians has comfortably placed at top of the table with 9 wins. They are not missing the services of their Rohit Sharma who is suffering from a hamstring injury. In his absence, Saurabh Tiwary has got yet another opportunity to showcase his mantle and Ishan Kishan was asked to open the innings. Both responded well with the bat. It’s time for them to make some changes in their playing XI and allow others. Quinton de Kock has done a fabulous job with the bat and he has kept wickets throughout this season. So he might be rested and Chris Lynn might get an opportunity today. Ishan Kishan might take care of wicket-keeping duties. At the same time, their seam bowlers Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah have been bowling tirelessly this season and they might get rest today. In their absence, McClenaghan and Dhawal Kulkarni might get their opportunity for the first time in the tournament. Hardik Pandya was rested in the last game and team management might allow him to rest yet another match as his replacement Jayant Yadav has done a fabulous job in his last outing. It’s time for Saurabh Tiwary to maximise the opportunity he has got. Keiron Pollard and Krunal Pandya at lower-order will be the ideal choice for them to put a strong scoreboard and both the striking well at the moment.
Expected Playing XI:
1 Ishan Kishan (wk), 2 Quinton de Kock/Chris Lynn, 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Saurabh Tiwary, 5 Kieron Pollard (capt), 6 Krunal Pandya, 7 Nathan Coulter-Nile, 8 Jayant Yadav, 9 Rahul Chahar, 10 Trent Boult/Mitchell McClenaghan, 11 Jasprit Bumrah/Dhawal Kulkarni
1 David Warner (capt), 2 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 3 Kane Williamson, 4 Manish Pandey, 5 Abdul Samad, 6 Abhishek Sharma, 7 Jason Holder, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Shahbaz Nadeem/Khaleel Ahmed, 10 Sandeep Sharma, 11 T Natarajan
What to expect:
Rashid khan needs to be used properly to contain the in-form MI batsmen. Considering lots of left-handers in MI’s middle order it’s high time to use Rashid in the powerplays and unsettle Surya Kumar Yadav.
Manish Pandey enjoys the far better record against Jaspirit Bumrah and today if Bumrah plays Manish can be used as a floater to capitalise Burmah’s poor record against Manish.
Last five games that played Sharjah has witnessed chasing teams winning matches so toss is going to be the crucial factor today.
Mumbai Indians might rest its few players which provide the opportunity for SRH to capitalise this opportunity and come good against table-toppers to ensure their place in playoffs.
