Yet another Sydney derby awaits for fans as Sydney sixers taking on Sydney thunder in the 48th match of the ongoing big bash league today at SCG. Sydney Sixers have already qualified for playoffs as they are topping the chart with 28 points. They have also defeated Sydney thunder when both the teams faced against each other last time. Captain Daniel Hughes is leading from the front for sixers and he is ably supported by players like Moises Henriques, Josh Phillipe and James Vince. Like last year Josh Phillipe has used the opportunity very well and come up with a couple of extraordinary knocks this season. The best part about them is they don’t have any big stars and are playing as a unit which is helping them really well. Steve O’Keeffe has been excellent with the ball and Carlos Braithwaite, Benn Manneti and jake ball are completing each other in their pace bowling department. Carlos Braithwaite is batting at no.8 which speaks the volumes of their batting depth.
Led by Callum Ferguson Sydney thunder are quite inconsistent in the latter part of the innings. Though sam billings and Alex Hales has got a couple of knocks under their belt their inconsistent middle order is costing the badly. When the openers got out it leaves ben cutting and Callum Ferguson to do a lot of work. They are not getting enough support from their middle order. Adam Milne is doing a commendable job with the ball and he is ably supported by Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha. Usman Khawaja and Oliver Davies need to play with more responsibility that will help to get past the victory margin with ease. If their middle-order fires then they are the team to reckon with. Overall a balanced outfit can win any match if they play up to they can beat Sydney sixers without much trouble.
Players to watch out for:
Like last year young wicket-keeper batsmen josh Phillipe is top-notch form this year. he is playing like a seasoned campaigner. He will look to put up a strong performance that will help him to stake his claim before selectors. With t20 world cup is approaching strong BBL performance would keep him ahead of his fellow competitors.
Tanveer sangha is in fine form this year and he is already in the record books for becoming the first spinner to claim more than 15 wickets in the single big bash season. He will look to repeat the same performance today against the strong sixers batting line-up that will help him to boost his confidence.
Pitch at Sydney will offer assistance for both batsmen and bowlers. Seamers can enjoy early swing so the batting second will be the viable option for the captain who won the toss.
Expected playing XI:
Josh Philippe (WK), Moises Henriques, James Vince, Daniel Hughes (C), Jordan Silk, Daniel Christian, Carlos Brathwaite, Jake Ball, Sean Abbott, Steve O’Keefe, Ben Manenti.
Usman Khawaja, Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson (c), Sam Billings (wk), Brendan Doggett, Oliver Davies, Ben Cutting, Chris Green, Nathan McAndrew, Tanveer Sangha, Adam Milne.
